The examination covered all aspects of Taekwon-Do; patterns, sparring, breaking and theory, and showed the tested the necessary skills to move from one grade to the next.

Six students from Grandmaster Howard’s Dojang travelled to Guilford on the 11th November 2016 to compete in the UK Open. For many of these students it was an opportunity to compete at their new grades. Some had recently been awarded their Black Belt and others their red belt. We were joined at the competition by Abbey O’Neill from Carrick and Alex Byrne from Stillorgan. Some of students were also stepping up to higher age categories for the first time. Daire and Cillian Howard were official mascots, flag holders and cheer leaders for the event.

The change in grade did not affect the focus of our competitors. They adapted well and represented Grandmaster Howard’s school, their instructors and themselves impeccably. The calibre of the opposition was first class and provided quite a test for our students in all disciplines. The students acquitted themselves well and won 12 medals in total, 1 Gold 4 Silver and 7 Bronze.

A fabulous and successful trip and competition for all involved. We look forward to the next competition, the Irish Open on the 26th November in the National Basketball Arena.
