Students from Grandmaster Howard’s Taekwon-Do School were well represented on the recent competition for RITA Colour Belt Squad. The six students form our school were part of a 20 strong team who represented the RITA at the INTA’s National Championships in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght, Dublin. The students from our school were; Max Cleary, Finn Howard, Sofia Hu, Eoin McLoughlin, Emmet O’Rourke and Shane Rice,
The six students from Cabra, Castleknock and Navan road, performed well across patterns, sparring and special technique and reaped the rewards of their hard training. It was nice to see that the students developing and improving and putting their training (with coach Mr Fox) into practice. Senior Master Howard and Mr Leon McSherry were stand-in coaches on the day and helped to steer the young competitors through many rounds and into the medal places. The message of the day was “give a good performance and the medals will follow”. Some won medals and some didn’t, but the overall the coaches were happy with the performances and effort showed by all the students.
The event attracted 450 competitors from across Ireland and further afield and there was some good talent on display. Big thank you to Senior Master O’Toole, Senior Master Douglas and Mr Jeroen Wezelman for the warm welcome and well organised competition. Also thanks to Mr McSherry for coaching on the day and the parents for all their support.
Next trip for these students is to The Netherlands for the Open Taekyon toernooi on the 29th of November.
